Sleepypod Review

Today we are reviewing a product that I think is a necessity for every pet owner and that is a car safety restraint. It is important that pets are restrained safely when traveling not only to protect them but to also protect you. In the event that you are in a car accident and your pet is not properly restrained, not only could they become injured, but you could also be injured by them being tossed around inside of the vehicle.
I have always had my dogs buckled in to some type of car restraint every time we are in the vehicle. I most often used a Snoozer car seat with a harness that buckled onto the seat belt. Not long after I got Aysia I began researching a different type of car restraint than what I was using because she was so tiny that no car harness would fit her. That’s when I found the Sleepypod.
I was immediately impressed with the fact that their products go through crash testing and are tested using the same standards that are set for child safety seats. (Take a moment to take a look at their YouTube page and see some of the crash tests. It’s quite impressive and also a bit terrifying!) I also loved the fact that not only would my girls be safe in the event of a car accident but the ‘pods’ could also be used as a carrier to transport them and they also turn into a bed when the top is unzipped off.
We have had our Sleepypods for almost 2 years now and I have to say that I wouldn’t be without one for each of my girls now. (Bailey is too big for a Sleepypod so she uses a crash tested safety harness instead) They are the most convenient way to transport your pet! My girls know when their Sleepypods come out, it’s time to go bye-bye and they hop right in and are ready to go. It’s also a bonus to be able to put them inside of their ‘pods’ and load things into the car without having to worry about them running around underfoot or accidentally getting out of the house while I’m in and out. I usually keep a small blanket, toy, and a chew treat inside of each of them so all I have to do is put the pups inside and we are ready to get in the car. Each of the Sleepypods strap into the car secured by the car seat belt and the mesh top allows them to see their surroundings and get adequate air or heat flow.
When we arrive to our destination it’s easy to either unzip the ‘pods’ to take them out or unbuckle the entire ‘pod’ and use it as a carrier. I’ve found it especially helpful when going to vet appointments that I can have each girl in their Sleepypod and not have to worry about their safety if there are other big dogs around. It also helps them to feel much more calm to be in their own little familiar space.
Not only are the Sleepypods great for travel but they can also be used as a bed if you unzip the entire mesh top dome off. When our’s first arrived I took the tops off of both of them to allow my girls to use them as beds if they chose, to help them get used to being inside of them. It worked like a charm because our first trip in the car was a huge success and I have never had any issues with either of them scratching or crying to get out. The Sleepypods really do become their own personal little space where they feel comfortable and safe which is exactly what you want to create when traveling with your pet.
